Camp Director: Tyler Fonarow

Tyler began his career at Hamlin teaching in the Lower School in 1995. In 1997, Tyler started and directed the first season of Hamlin Summer Camp. At Hamlin, Tyler has taught 2nd and 4th grades, science, physical education, English, math, climbing wall and outdoor education, and has coached soccer, basketball and volleyball. Tyler grew up in Marin County and is a graduate of Redwood High School and the University of California at Davis. He also has his Master’s Degree at San Francisco State University in Recreation Administration. Tyler started attending organized camps in 1980 as a camper and has worked at camps every summer since 1988. Outside of Hamlin, Tyler coaches soccer; mountain bikes and likes to take road trips.

Summer Camp Director & Leadership Coordinator: Gina Gomes

Gina just returned to Hamlin Camps after a four year hiatus! Gina's role as Summer Camp Director includes acting as Head Counselor, coordinating the Leadership Training Program and overseeing extended care. She started at Hamlin Camps as a Group Leader in 1998 and assumed the role of Assistant Director from 1999-2001. Gina grew up near Sacramento, CA. She has a BA in Psychology from UC San Diego and a MA in Counseling Psychology from USF. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a strong background in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She is currently in the process of establishing a private practice in San Francisco. In her free time, she loves to spend time with family and friends, play and watch sports, and listen to music. She also enjoys learning about her Portuguese roots and speaks Spanish fluently!

Extended Care Coordinator & Group Leader: Carmalita Doss

Carmalita graduated from Saint Mary’s College in Moraga with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology Child/Adolescent Development. She studies a semester at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa. She is excited to work with the youth at Hamlin Camps this summer. Carmalita is native to the Bay Area. She is currently a Teacher’s Assistant at the Hamlin School for the Kindergarten Girls. Carmalita loves to read, watch movies and enjoys writing in her journal.

 

Overnight Coordinator : Andrew Schaper

Andrew graduated from Colorado College with a degree in English. Andrew is a new addition to the Hamlin Camp Staff. He recently moved to San Francisco from Telloride, Colorado where he spent his time enjoying the mountain vistas. Andrew looks forward to beginning a teaching career at the Town School for Boys where he will be a Teaching Assistant in a 6th grade Humanities Classroom.

 

Group Leader: Aleza Berube

Aleza is new to the Bay Area. She attends Knox College, in Galesburg, IL where she is studying Elementary Education and Dance. This is Aleza first year working with the youth at Hamlin Camps. In Aleza’s free time, she enjoys knitting, hiking and yard sales. This fall Aleza will be student teaching in a fourth grade classroom in Chicago, IL. She is very excited to work with her Puma campers and the staff at Hamlin Camps.

Group Leader: Sara Gerstein

Sara graduated from Hamlin in ’98 and University High School in 2002. This fall she will be completing her senior year at Cornell University. This is her third summer at Hamlin Camps. She loves being outdoors, traveling, reading, hiking, arts & crafts and having fun. Sara is looking forward to Co-Leading the Leadership Training Program (LTP).

Group Leader: Katie Harrison

Katie Harrison was born in San Francisco. She graduated from Hamlin School in 2001 and from University High School 2005. She will be a freshman at the University of California San Diego this fall. Katie enjoys playing tennis, piano, and singing. She has a younger sister who works at Hamlin Camps as well. This will be Katie’s fifth year as a staff member at Hamlin Camps. She looks forward to having a fabulous summer with returning and new campers alike.

Group Leader: Angelique McGuire

Hi my name is Anglique McGuire and this is my second year working for Hamlin Camps. I'm 17 teen years old, and I go to International Studies Academy. This fall I will enter the 12th grade. I love to work with all types of kids. Working for Hamlin Camps gives me an opportunity to express my ideas and have fun. My hobbies are volleyball, dancing, singing, and basketball. I love to go to the movies and out to eat with my friends.

Group Leader: Alex Ong

After graduating from Lowell high school in 2003, Alex Ong has just finished his sophomore year of college at the University of Arizona. He is an international business major but loves to work with children. This is his second year working at Hamlin Camps and is very excited to be part of the Hamlin family. Alex currently has a younger sister who has just graduated from Hamlin who this year. In his spare time Alex, enjoys playing all types of sports such as baseball and golf. He is also a huge fan of the Bay Area sports teams. This spring Alex coached a little league baseball team in Arizona.

Group Leader: Paula Pelavin

Paula is an Alumnae of Hamlin School ’99. She currently attends Colby College in Maine. She was born and raised in San Francisco. She is on the Woodsman Team at Colby College. She is excited about being apart of the Hamlin community once again. In her free time she enjoys driving cross country especially between California and Maine.

Group Leader: Ariel Smith

Ariel is new to Hamlin Camps this year. She is currently a PE teacher for Middle and High School students at Sterne School. She loves working with kids and is very excited about working with younger children for the summer. She graduated from Cal State Northridge with a BA in American History and is beginning a Teacher Credential Program at San Francisco State. In her free time she enjoys photography, hiking, biking and Tai Chi.

Group Leader: Brian Thoele-Neirro

Brian Thoele-Neirro has just recently graduated from University High School and is going to be a freshman at University of California Riverside where he will major in creative writing. At his high school, Brian has played basketball, lacrosse, baseball, and ultimate Frisbee. Brian plays the guitar and the piano and plans to continue his study in music for the rest of his life. This is Brian's third year at Hamlin Camps, which he loves to be a part of.

Group Leader: Gavin Willis

Gavin is from Sydney, Australia, and is a commercial real estate appraiser. This is his second year at Hamlin Camp. He graduated in 2000 from the University of Western Sydney with a Business Degree majoring in Property and Economics. In his spare time, he goes surfing, water skiing, hiking, mountain bike riding and plays the guitar. He loves camp so much he returned to see his campers from last year and hike at Yosemite.

Activity Leader: Blake Babcock

Blake Babcock is 17 years old and has worked at Hamlin Camps for four years. He currently goes to Drew High School, and will be a senior. He enjoys playing the piano, and playing in his school Latin band. He also likes playing tennis, and card games. He loves being with kids and being a counselor. Blake likes to create computer art and animation. Blake is also studying computer programming.

Activity Leader: Laia Brunet Lopez

Laia is from Barcelona. She is studying Business and Economics at the University. In her free time she enjoys reading, listening to music and hiking. She loves to ski and travel.

Activity Leader:Trevor Chan

Trevor lives in San Francisco, California. He is going to be a Senior at Stuart Hall High School. He graduated from Stuart Hall Elementary School for Boys which he had attended since kindergarten. He is returning for the sixth time to Hamlin Camps. He spent two years as a camper in the Lions group. He returned three years ago as a junior counselor, and he is returning this year as an Activity Leader (WOOHOO). He enjoys playing tennis, basketball, playing his trumpet, doing karate, listening to music, watching movies, hanging out with friends and lion dancing. He looks forward to another great summer at Hamlin Camps!

Activity Leader: Emily Davenport

Emily Davenport has just completed her second year as a sophomore at University High School. She runs track (4x100, 100m, long jump, triple jump, hurdles) for UHS. She enjoys watching all sports on TV, but is an avid supporter of the San Francisco Giants and the Denver Broncos. She does not like the Lakers, and she wishes the Pistons the best of luck in defeating the overrated Spurs in this year's NBA playoffs. Her favorite colors are blue and red, yet she does not like the color purple. Emily likes the outdoors, but she doesn't mind sitting in front of her computer or the TV either.

Activity Leader: Eric Ng

Eric Ng lives in San Francisco, CA. He is going to be a senior at San Francisco University High School and has been working at Hamlin Camp for the past four years. He was once a camper in the Lion’s group and is now an Activity Leader. Eric really enjoys basketball, lacrosse, watching movies and hanging out with Trevor and G. Eric hopes to have a lot of fun with the campers and staff.


Activity Leader: G Di Sciullo

G was born on Friday the 13th in October in San Francisco. G is a senior at University High School and he plans to attend college as an International Business Major witha minor in French. This is his first time at Hamlin Camps and he is having a BLAST!!! G is 100% Italian and plays soccer both in the United States and Italy. He loves to laugh and have a good time. GO PUMAS!!!

Activity Leader: Patrick Free

Patrick will be a Senior at SF University High School next fall. He lives with his family in the Marina District and enjoys rock climbing and tennis. He is an Outdoor Ed Teacher's Assistant at SFUHS and enjoys spending time in the outdoors doing activities such as camping, hiking, backpacking and river rafting. Last summer he spent two weeks kayaking 80 miles around an island in a remote part of Alaska. This is his third year as a counselor at Hamlin Camps and he was once a camper. He has enjoyed his past years and looks forward to a terrific summer.

Activity Leader: Allie Kokesh

Allie willl be a freshman at Trinity College next fall. This is her first summer at Hamlin Camps. She is an Activity Leader in Performing Arts this summer. She has been acting for 8 years and has been in over a dozen productions.

Activity Leader: Lyly Pham

Lyly Pham is an energetic sophomore at George Washington high. In the fall she'll be a junior there. This will be her fourth year at Hamlin camp, she was a camper for one year, and a junior counselor for another year as well. "She's amazing," said Emily Davenport another junior counselor at Hamlin this year. She knows how to speak Vietnamese and Mandarin. She enjoys playing volleyball, basketball, tennis, and loves to dance. She is really easy to get along with, extremely down to earth. Loves to laugh and making others laugh, and usually will always have a smile on.

Activity Leader: Cameo Taylor

Cameo graduated from International Studies Academy. She is currently attending San Francisco City College. This is Cameo’s second year at Hamlin Camp. She is looking forward to having fun this summer. She enjoys cooking and playing with her son, Armón.

Assistant Counselor: Thomas Bosc

Thomas graduated form Cathedral School for Boys in 2003. He attends University High School where he is a junior. He plays soccer, baseball but his favorite sport is basketball. Led zeppelin is his favorite band. He is very excited about his first year at Hamlin Camp and he hopes there are many more years to come.

Assistant Counselor: Kelsey Harrington

After graduating from Hamlin ’04, Kelsey now attends Thacher in Southern California. She will be a sophomore next fall. Kelsey likes riding horses, playing lacrosse, playing the drums and creative writing. Kelsey was a former camper at Hamlin Camps and is now an Assistant Counselor. This year will be her fourth year at Hamlin camps and first as staff. She is looking forward to having fun with the campers and going on many adventures.

Assistant Counselor: Sara Harrison

Sara graduated from The Hamlin School 03’ and will be a junior at San Francisco University High School. She loves photography and film. This is her first year working at Hamlin Camps and she is excited to start. Sara also has a sister working at Hamlin Camps as well.

Assistant Counselor: Neus Estrany Riera

Neus is from Barcelona. This is her first year ay Hamlin Camps. She is here because she enjoys working with kids and she wants to improve her English. Neus has just completed her second year the University studying business and economics. Her hobbies include going swimming, reading, hiking and going out with friends. She likes going to the beach and sun bathing as well.

Assistant Counselor: Ayano Ogawa

After graduating from the Hamlin School in '02, Ayano Ogawa is now a student at the San Francisco University High School. She will be a senior this fall. During the school year, Ayano plays tennis and lacrosse, paints and draws. She is also a Peer Advisor for the incoming Freshmen in her high school. This is her third year working at Hamlin Camps. She is ecstatic to talk and go on CGAs with the children again, and is ready to have a lot of fun!

Assistant Counselor: Dominique Sheth

Dominique is a sophomore at Convent of the Sacred Heart. She has been at Hamlin Camps for the last eight years as a camper. She is excited about this summer working at Hamlin Camps as an Assistant Counselor. She enjoys horse back riding and drawing. She is on the drama crew at Convent. She knows that Hamlin Camps 2005 will be the most awesome summer at Hamlin yet!!!

Assistant Counselor: Staurt Watts

Stuart attends Vermont Academy. This is his fifth summer at Hamlin Camp. He loves playing music, socializing and working. He is excited to be back at camp. Stuart always has fun.

Group Leader: Kristin Francoz

Kristin is a Hamlin Alum Class of 2000. She is currently at Columbia University and is home for the summer. This is Kristin’s first time at Hamlin Camps. She likes soccer, ice cream and having fun.
